Washington Cluster 19, which is Pierce County, recently observed its 52nd quarterly Cluster Reflection Meeting. Established by the Universal House of Justice, a cluster is a geographic area intended to assist us to think about the growth of the Faith. Its boundaries are determined based on factors relating to the general population, such as culture, language, patterns of transport, infrastructure, and the social and economic life of the inhabitants. Its purpose is to enable Baha’is in the area to work together to reach out to their friends and neighbors and invite them to spend time with us focusing on their spiritual natures, which is every soul’s true essence, and to introduce them to the Message of Baha’u’llah. The process of growth is, of course, fundamentally organic in nature: it is the movement of a population, propelled by mounting spiritual forces, in terms of a rich and dynamic continuum. Every three months we come together and review our recent progress and consider our next steps.
We reach out to all ages. We have children’s classes, junior youth spiritual empowerment programs (ages 11 – 14), study circles for adults and youth ages 15 years and up, devotional meetings, and firesides. If you are interested, please contact us through our email address and let us know what you are interested in for either yourself or your children. We will be in touch!

A view of some of those attending our recent Cluster Reflection Meeting. Here, we are reviewing information showing where we have made progress and where we are struggling.

The Tacoma Bahá’í Community celebrated the Twin Holy Days on Sunday, October 22nd, with a public observance in the auditorium of Tacoma Community College. These holy days are in honor of the birth of the Báb, the Forerunner and Herald of Bahá’u’lláh, on October 21st, and the 200th anniversary of the birth of Bahá’u’lláh, on Sunday, October 22nd. As the Universal House of Justice said to us in a letter dated May, 2016, “these Holy Days should be viewed as special opportunities for the friends to reach out to the widest possible cross-section of society and to all those with whom they share a connection—whether through a family tie or common interest, an occupation or field of study, neighbourly relations or merely chance acquaintance—so that all may rejoice in the appearance, exactly two hundred years before, of One Who was to be the Bearer of a new Message for humankind.” Here are some photographs of that celebration.

American Indian welcome songs blessed the opening of the celebration.

An opening prayer was read in Spanish.

Followed by an opening prayer chanted in Farsi (Persian).

A Cambodian blessing dance was beautifully interpreted.

Sacred passages of the Bahá’í Writings were shared.

Images from new documentary “Light to the World” were shown during the readings, and at other times during the presentation.

“Blessed is the Spot”, a prayer by Bahá’u’lláh, was beautifully sung to piano accompaniment.

Followed by the performance of “The Engulfed Cathedral” by composer Claude Debussy, with images of Bahá’í Temples around the world serving as backdrop. Photo by Tushaun Vang.

Youth from Tacoma led the audience in song.

A lovely rendition of “Love is Light” followed the youth presentation.

The celebration concluded with a rousing audience participation sing along.

A banner in the lobby welcomed everyone to the celebration. Photo by Tushaun Vang.

A table with literature about us was in the lobby. Photo by Tushaun Vang.

Two large banners in the lobby presented some of the titles by which Bahá’u’lláh and the Báb were known. Photo by Tushaun Vang.

The desserts and refreshments were amazing! Including a beautiful birthday cake. Photo by Tushaun Vang. Photos by Gary Slone except where noted.

This is the Day in which God’s most excellent favors have been poured out upon men, the Day in which His most mighty grace hath been infused into all created things. It is incumbent upon all the peoples of the world to reconcile their differences, and, with perfect unity and peace, abide beneath the shadow of the Tree of His care and loving-kindness. It behoveth them to cleave to whatsoever will, in this Day, be conducive to the exaltation of their stations, and to the promotion of their best interests. Happy are those whom the all-glorious Pen was moved to remember, and blessed are those men whose names, by virtue of Our inscrutable decree, We have preferred to conceal.
